Yesterday we heard that Apple had sold a massive 74.5 million smartphones in their first fiscal quarter of 2015, this basically covers Q4 2014 sales.
Now it looks like Apple may have sold more smartphones than Samsung in Q4 of 2014, although this has yet to be confirmed.
Back in 2011 Samsung took over from Apple as the top smartphone maker, selling more handsets than the company, and now things could have changed.
Samsung has not released any specific details on how many smartphones they sold in quarter four, although the company did tell re/code that they sold a total of 90 million mobile phones for the quarter, and the smartphone percentage of these devices was in the ‘high 70 percent’ range.
That would mean that Samsung sold somewhere between 71 million and 75 million smartphones in quarter four of 2014.
Samsung has seen its smartphone sales fall over the last year, with stronger competition from other Android manufacturers like HTC, LG, and also more competition from Apple with their larger iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus handsets.
It will be interesting to see the official figures from Samsung on their 2014 quarter four sales, and whether they managed to sell more devices than Apple.
